FAQ #2 – How Do You Get Video On Your Website?

FAQ #2 – How Do You Get Video On Your Website?

Everyone is talking about the power of video and that you have to have it on your website if you want to be competitive. So how do you do that and what kind of video should you have on your site?

There is more to consider than just getting video on your site so watch this video to get the answers. Please leave my your comments and questions and I will respond just as soon as I can.

Bye for now,

Brian J Devine

Below is a transcript of the video for those who prefer to read.

The second question that I get most often when I’m talking with orthodontists about their websites and about their website marketing is “how do I get video on my website?”

That’s a really interesting question that involves lots of different options. So we always start with what I consider the easiest thing to do and that is to use a little camera like a flip video camera. I think you can get them now for as little as $150. You can put that in your pocket, carry it around and whenever somebody in your office says to you, “You have been terrific. We love everything you’ve done. My teeth are fantastic” ask them if they’d be willing to put that on record, hold up that little video camera and record it.

What’s nice about these little cameras is that they’re with you all the time, so when the moment strikes, you can go ahead and get that video. Then you just plug it into your computer and there’s a little outlet that plugs directly into your computer, uploads it to your desktop and if you’d like, with one click of a button, you can have that put onto YouTube.

What’s powerful about that is once it’s on YouTube, it’s going to take a little while to upload and for you to approve it and put it on and everything else, however, once it’s there, they give you what’s called an embed code. That embed code can be copied and pasted directly into any page on your website and it doesn’t take hours to do.

So if you have to call your webhost provider and have them put that in there for you, we’re not talking about hours worth of time. We’re talking about 10 to 15 minutes at the most. So that’s the easiest way to do it.

Then you can move up to what I typically do, where I’ve got a camera on a tripod and the video camera has better optics. It’s going to look a little bit nicer, a little bit of a lighting set up so that you can have control over the aesthetics of the video and then a little bit better sound quality.

When you do that, then you move the video from your camera to your computer and then ‑ this is where it gets interesting ‑ you need to have some editing software and with the editing software you can add text and images to the lower third. We can put websites in there, we can put your name, and we can put just about anything you want.

I leave space over on the left of the screen so I can put some scrolling text to emphasis a point or just so that there’s more options for available. Now if you’re going to do something like that, you’ve got to have more software, more equipment, but it can be a little bit more powerful as far as getting more information on your timetable out to the Internet and that helps bring in more backlinks to your website.

So that answers question number two. Hopefully that made sense. If you want more information about it, let us know and we’ll be happy to help.

  1. Hi, Your videos are great. Short, and to the point. Nice music theme. I am wondering…. do you have a service where if I take a video, can you do the editing (i.e. write my website on bottom third, and connect it to my website??). Whart are your prices?
    Have a nice day.

  2. Hi Robin,
I sent you a video email as a reply and thought I would respond to you here as well. We are very capable of adding your website to the lower third of your video. We also have the ability to include clickable link at the end of your video, host the video for you, and provide the code you need to add the video to your site. The investment involved will depend on the video you have to work with, what your goals are with the video, and if you plan to promote the video as well.
We are hear to help, so feel free to email or call with your questions.

I know your secret too! I look at commenting in this way – since I’m relatively new to blogging, I always thought from the beginning that it was a two-way medium, where someone is starting a conversation that invites interaction, so I picked up the habit right away. In contrast, I’d think if some folks never commented when they first ventured into the blogosphere, it would be more difficult to jump in down the road (i.e. not a habit). Nevertheless, I agree with you on your last statement

I <3 your blog theme. Can I ask which one it is? I'd like to steal it for a blog I plan on building :D
